Malaika’s fall during Dabangg song - Video

Malaika Arora Khan who has performed an item number in 'Dabangg' along with Salman Khan has a bad fall while shooting the song

Salman's 'Munni' in trouble

'Dabangg' producer Arbaaz Khan has a superhit movie on his hands, but now there's trouble with the chartbuster 'Munni Badnaam Hui' that Salman Khan and sis-in-law Malaika Arora Khan dance to in it. Zandu Pharmaceutical Works, the makers of Zandu Balm, have served the 'Dabangg' team with a legal notice for copyright infringement. They have objected to the use of 'Zandu Balm' being used in the lyrics.

The music and lyrics for the song have been composed by Lalit Pandit. And the words 'Zandu Balm' have been used several times in the number.

There's been some surprise as to why the company has come out with the complaint now, when the song was out in promos a few months ago. Meanwhile, the production house says they have'nt received a notice yet. Though Zandu Balm's spokesperson confirms that a notice has been sent.

Kareena's bash for Malaika Arora Khan

Kareena Kapoor threw a party for her best friend Amrita's sister Malaika Arora Khan urf Munni from Dabangg last night.

"Kareena is here for only a few days but she insisted on having a party for Malaika when she heard that Dabangg was a hit and the song Munni Badnaam Hui had become a rage. Salman and Kareena had a problem during the shooting of Main Aur Mrs Khanna after which they had decided not to work together but that has been sorted out. Bebo is too warm-hearted a person to hold grudges," a source said.

The party was held at Kareena's Bandra flat where Amu, Bebo, Malaika, Tusshar, director Lovely Singh and Karisma Kapoor had great fun dancing to the song.

Malaika said, "Though I am over the moon that the song is so popular and Dabangg is such a big hit, the best part is that friends have been really sweet and hosted celebratory dinners. Bebo was in town and she also had something at her place. We told her she has a busy schedule but she said 'I don't care, we are celebrating!'"

Few know that Malaika was initially reluctant to dance to the song, which has been composed by Lalit Pandit. "I felt that, as a producer, I should stay behind the camera. But when Arbaaz heard the song he came and told me that he's found his Munni and I will do the song. Later Salman and Amu insisted that only I could do justice to the number so I gave in."

Munni act floors Bebo

Kareena Kapoor landed in Mumbai from Latvia via Frankfurt with two blobs of red on her cheeks.

Yes, the weather in Latvia where she was shooting for Agent Vinod was cold! Anway the first thing Bebo did when she landed in the warmer climes was to congratulate her best friends Malaika Arora Khan and Amrita Arora Lakdawala on the super success of their latest film.

Bebo said, "I haven't seen Malli's film, but I have only been hearing about what a rocker it is from everyone around me."

What Bebo conveniently forgot to say was that she herself was having a private bash for Malaika, Amrita, Lovely Singh, Tusshar Kapoor, Shabina Khan and a few others at her home last night. Said one of her friends, "Bebo wanted to be the first to throw a success party for Malli. And Malli actually did her Munni act at this closed door affair for the chosen few. All the guests joined in and they actually brought the house down." Saif Ali Khan missed this rocking party at his home because he is still in Europe.

'Dabangg' beats '3 Idiots' at weekend box office

Salman Khan did it last year with 'Wanted' and he has done it again now - the star has set the box office on fire as corrupt cop Chulbul 'Robinhood' Pande in his latest movie 'Dabangg' that has collected Rs.48.25 crore (gross) at the opening weekend. And trade pundits say it has beaten the initial earnings of Hindi cinema's highest grosser '3 Idiots'.

Set in rustic and rugged Uttar Pradesh, Abhinav Kashyap's directorial debut had collections of approximately Rs.14.50 crore, Rs.15.75 crore and Rs.18 crore on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (September 10,11 and 12), respectively, adding up to approximately Rs.48.25 crore, according to trade sources.

Aamir's '3 Idiots', which released last Christmas, on the other hand, raked in approximately Rs.41 crore gross including paid previews which didn't happen in the case of 'Dabangg'.

The film's success has not only benefited Salman, but also established his brother Arbaaz Khan as a successful producer.

"The audience response of 'Dabangg' has really humbled me... 'Dabangg' is the biggest grosser of all time for the weekend. Shattering all records everywhere. I'm so proud of Salman and my entire team. Kudos," Arbaaz, who turned producer with the movie, posted on Twitter.

"A special thanks to all the audiences who have embraced and loved the film to make it so huge... also to the many critics who have given very good reviews."

'Dabangg' turned out to be a lucky launch pad for Sonakshi Sinha, the daughter of veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha.

"It has broken all records. It is running 30 percent ahead of '3 Idiots' and has been appreciated both by masses and classes across both multiplexes and single-screens," said Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan.

"The movie has got an Eid effect as it released in the festive weekend. It has no competition as earlier releases didn't do well and there is no big release in the coming week too. These are rare circumstances that we see in the Indian film industry," he added.

Multiplexes are busy counting profit.

"All shows for the movie have been housefull starting from Sunday till Monday afternoon. We have been playing 29 shows of the movie and the response has been very good. Everyone is liking it," Amit Awasthi, senior manager (Programming and Operations) of Spice Cinemas, said.

"In just three days, the movie has crossed Rs.2.1 million at Spice whereas '3 Idiots' had collected only Rs.1.85 million. However, with no big release this week, we are optimistic that the movie will definitely go places, though during weekdays, we are expecting less collections compared to the weekend," he added.

Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (Cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, is also happy with the initial box office response -- however, he is sceptical about the week ahead.

"It definitely had a stronger weekend collection than '3 Idiots' but now we have to see is whether it is able to sustain the collections. With not many big releases around the corner, we are hoping that it will," he said.

Distributor Mahajan is also not sure 'Dabangg' will beat the overall record of '3 Idiots' that grossed over Rs.450 crore.

" 'Dabangg' won't have an overall '3 Idiots' effect because that one had a very good word of mouth and people came to watch it with family. But you can't recommend this one to your father or your elders, you can just watch it once and get entertained," said Mahajan.

"Then '3 Idiots' maintained its business in the second and third week but this one doesn't look that promising," he added.

Also starring Sonu Sood, Arbaaz, Vinod Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, the film is doing well in states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab as it collected approximately Rs.15.60 crore.

It's Munni v/s Sheila

Even though Dabangg's Munni Badnaam Hui is a huge hit, Katrina Kaif has been raving about how Sheila Ki Jawani will be the biggest hit once it releases.

Kat can't stop telling anyone with a ear how it will be the chart-buster of the year.

We wonder why Munni's star Malaika Arora Khan, who doesn't share a friendly rapport with the Tees Maar Khan actress anyway, is downplaying her gaana. Guess we'll have to wait till we hear Sheila and take sides.

* Sonali Bendre on the sets of India's Got Talent carrying a copy of Tamil Pulp Fiction. We just love a girl who spends her time with her head buried in a good tome, rather than in her own self-obsessed derriere.
PS: And for those wondering if there is any stress between Ms Bendre and Kirron Kher over the disagreement over contestants, be assured there isn't. Sonali says, "Maybe it comes across like that, because of editing sometimes but we get along really well."

* Malaika Arora Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Amrita Arora Ladak celebrating the success of Dabangg at Bilal Amrohi's restaurant in Juhu. Bilal is the grandson of the late filmmaker Kamal Amrohi.
